The lettings industry, for a variety of reasons, appears to be at a crossroads and its future is uncertain. That’s not to say that it’s in danger of disintegration, but it seems on the verge of irrevocable change - the trouble is, nobody can say for certain what the change (or changes) might be.

With technology growing ever more important within the sector, many would say that it’s about time, but the industry as a whole appears unsure about how best to embrace it. Coupled with other factors such as the impending letting fees ban, which will have significant impact on agencies throughout the UK, and the emergence of controversial business model disrupters such as Purplebricks, it is clear that this is an exciting but uncertain time in the sector.

Agencies and lettings professionals may well want to plan for the future and limit the negative impact of any changes, but it’s difficult to predict what will happen. However, we’ve gathered five of the industry’s most respected names to pick their brains and find out what they think the future holds. Their discussion can be found in full in our eBook, What is the Future of the Lettings Industry?. They are:

Ed Mead, Co-Founder of Viewber

Ed has over 35 years’ experience in the property market, dealing mostly in London. He is the co-founder of Viewber, an outsourced viewing service for estate agents, having previously spent 22 years at Douglas & Gordon. He also regularly offers property and mortgage advice on LBC radio.

Nik Madan, ARLA Propertymark Immediate Past President and Group Lettings Development Director at Connells Group

With two decades of property experience under his belt, Nik took up the role of President of Propertymark in June 2016. At Connells Group he works with institutional investors and corporate landlords to provide lettings and management solutions, and has been quoted by the likes of the Daily Express and Time Out magazine in the recent past.

Luke Gidney, Managing Director of Let-Leeds

As the Managing Director of Let-Leeds, Luke is passionate about providing stellar properties to tenants across the city. With a decade of experience under his belt in Yorkshire cities including Leeds and York, he represents the best of the regional lettings operators.

Rayhan Omar, Founder of Unmortgage

Ray brings 17 years’ experience managing and growing a residential property portfolio to his role as the founder of Unmortgage, the new way to buy a home without a loan. He also regularly contributes to Property Industry Eye among other publications.

James Dearsley, Partner of PropTech Consult

As a partner of PropTech Consult, a digital transformation consultancy helping the property market evolve, James is able to draw on his expertise in the real estate sector. He previously worked for Foxtons and was the Head of European Sales and Marketing at Atlas International, which fuelled his love of proptech. He is also in high demand as a conference speaker and writer.
