Important Changes to Housing Act Notice Periods

On-demand Masterclass Recorded on 04 Sep, 2020

Giving agents and landlords less than 24 hours' notice, the government announced that a new six-month notice period for possession claims would come into effect. The new lengthier notice period will take effect for eviction notices served from 29 August 2020 until at least 31 March 2021. There are exceptions made to certain fault-based eviction cases where the notice period will be two or four weeks. But when might landlords rely on these exceptions? Are all tenancies within the scope of the new regulations?

In this masterclass, regulatory law expert David Smith walks us through the background of the regulations, the immediate impact these changes will have on pending and future possession claims, and how agents and landlords may be able to achieve faster possession claims under Section 8 of the Housing Act.

Topics

  • Potential issues with the notice period changes
  • Exceptions to the temporary six-month notice period
  • Key considerations when issuing a Section 8 notice
