TheMHCLG'sintroduction of theElectrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020has sparked widespread debate in recent weeks. Whilst the regulations are clear as to which tenancy agreements will be within scope when the regulations come into effect on 1 July 2020, the guidance put out by MHCLG on 1 June 2020 could have led thousands of landlords to believe, mistakenly, that they would have until April 2021 to become compliant when in fact they should be compliant by 1 July 2020. The confusion worsened on 18 June 2020 with the MHCLG changing their guidance document only to withdraw it a day later.
In this 40-minute webinar, regulatory law specialist, David Smith, Partner at JMW Solicitors examined the regulations and explained, in plain English, the potential litigation problems on the issue and what the Electrical Inspection Condition Reports (EICRs) requirements for rented homes in England is from 1 July 2020.
